The are three items in the category of defense we need to think about
- Defense against foreign nations and terrorists
- We must have the capability to defend America from foreign invaders via military arms and forces.
- We need to find ways to better track, infiltrate and monitor terrorist group, individuals and recruitment.
- We should not place people on terrorist lists just because of political beliefs. Beliefs are only at odds with the state when they break the law via action.
- We must resist entering other countrie unless request by the government or masses of the people. It is not our right to attack a country with differing beliefs
- Defense against our own government
- This gets interesting in that this is what the Second amendment was really about. Our nation had just gone through a great revolution against England. They knew over time any nation even this new one just created, could become corrupt and not managed by the people but itself. The goal of our Constitution was to allow the people to rule how it would manage overall but not individually. The states would address that next level. In all cases the people would direct the government. If the government becomes so corrupt and controlling that the people lose freedoms: of the press, of choice, of ownership, of representation, undue persecution, of religion, etc; then the people should be armed to over throw it.
To date that is still possible and should remain so. In the same breathe that right must be managed in a fair and safe way.
- Defense of ourselves.
-
Let's consider whom we think protects us, Armed forces, National Guard, Police. To paraphrase "FRANK J. REMINGTON" professor of law, "The role of police is to enforce laws and make arrests as necessary to do that enforcement." No one is assigned to protect the people even when they advertise
otherwise.
